‘It cannot be beyond the capabilities of local councils to reopen bathrooms’

• WITH all the clamour to restart football, open pubs and create “air bridges” for travel, the government and particularly councils have ignored an important basic need for all citizens – public bathrooms.

All commuters, walkers, joggers, picnicking families and the less able, need access to public conveniences as the usual options – pubs, hotels and coffee shops – are in lockdown.

It cannot be beyond the capabilities of local councils to reopen bathrooms in parks with attendants or for train stations to do the same.

All so well and good to prioritise car showrooms and the like, but to force a needy population to use bushes, trees and alleyways to “spend a penny” themselves is unhygienic and uncivilised.
