Father Basil Jellicoe fundraiser
• HOW times change.
In 2021 a luxury 28-storey tower is being built in Somers Town, on a public park, with no affordable, let alone social housing.
In 1921, one hundred years ago, Father Basil Jellicoe came here and built one of Britain’s most innovative social housing schemes, taking the poor from wretched slum conditions.
This is a story we need to remember and why we are creating a new museum in Somers Town.
We are holding a fundraiser for A Space for us, our museum on December 1, to tell this remarkable story: Jellicoe100.
We invite all readers to come to our centenary event at St Pancras Old Church for a retelling of this amazing story by a great cast of professional actors.
It’s also a tribute to producer and actor Rob Inglis, who sadly died this year, director and producer Jellicoe the Musical in 2003.
And it’s a knees up with live music from (local) Cleo Sylvestre, star of stage and screen, food and mulled wine, with the Pearly Queen of St Pancras!
How better to end the year by celebrating the principles that drove a housing movement. Please buy tickets on Eventbrite for Jellicoe100 or email us.
