Religious beliefs are silly

‘I’m sick of groups claiming that their chosen beliefs require special dispensation’
• SINCE religious groups make such a habit of selfish special pleading, I wasn’t too surprised by the front-page story about churches demanding the right to hold services despite coronavirus restrictions, (Legal challenge over the right to hold church services, November 26).
If followers of a particular world view / philosophy of life / belief system are allowed to ignore health regulations and meet regardless then that dispensation must be non-discriminatory.
If Christians are allowed to, then it must also be legal for atheists, flat-earthers, Liberal Democrats, Bakuninist-existentialists, and anyone else who wants to commune with their fellow adherents.
I’m sick of groups claiming that their chosen beliefs require special dispensation not given to everyone else – especially when those beliefs are as silly as religious ones are. Why do they think they’re so special?
