• YOUR Comment rightly points out how ridiculous it is to suggest that we can’t afford to make Kentish Town tube station accessible to the disabled or less abled, (We can afford to be inclusive, it’s just a matter of choice, June 29).

At times of politically determined austerity we are conditioned to believe that we simply don’t have the means to behave decently towards a section of our own fellow humans.

We’re rather keener to display empathy and understanding toward another section of people ­– the billionaires whose media gives us frequent reminders that we can’t demand any more from them in difficult times.

Put up tax for the rich and they’ll pack up and leave us, we’re warned. What? Including the non-doms who want to make use of our services and infrastructure without paying a penny piece?

Personally I’d be only too happy to wave them goodbye as they sail off in their big boats.
