Postal workers walked out on strike over a pay rise dispute

• I AGREE that the postie can be the only link to the outside world for many people, especially in rural areas, and especially during the pandemic when the service carried on, (Pandemic hero postal workers go on strike over pay, September 1).

What the public should know however, are the facts surrounding the dispute:

• Royal Mail have not offered 5.5 per cent on pay, they have imposed 2 per cent without any agreement.

• They have offered a further 1.5 per cent based on signing away existing terms and conditions.

• They have offered £500 in 2023 for hitting targets that even they know are unachievable.

• They made £758m profit.

• They gave £400m to shareholders.

• The two CEOs and finance officer took over £2m in bonuses.

• Then they imposed 2 per cent on the people who made that profit: the posties.

They need our support.
