Pedestrian crossings need the countdown in seconds to be shown

Thursday, 25th April 2019

• I WAS interested to read David Reed’s letter regarding how dangerous Finchley Road can be, (We need action to curb speed on dangerous roads, April 18).

Just trying to cross the road can be very hazardous indeed. From the Odeon Swiss Cottage to just before the JW3 centre, the pedestrian crossings with traffic lights do not have the modern system displaying countdown seconds that will allow for a little more time and flexibility to estimate safe crossing. These can now be found on most major roads in London.

Interestingly, further down the main road in St John’s Wood, far less perilous, all the traffic lights display seconds numbers, but that is in Westminster not Camden!
