• THERE is a trial underway to legitimise electric bike hire, to include restrictions on hirers being of an appropriate age and top speed limit.

Why bother? Our pavements are a race track for illegal electric bikes favoured by young men and adolescent teens. There is no enforcement. There is no speed limit as they weave, full-throttle, through unsuspecting pedestrians.

While there is great concern for cyclists’ safety in relation to cars there is none for pedestrians from pavement-riding cyclists and this new generation of illegal motorised menace.
