Pavement design was for protection

• DURING the inquest into the horrific motorised massacre on London Bridge, reference was made to the fact that had the post-attack safety precautions on the bridge been in place then some of the deaths could have been prevented.

How ironic that, simultaneously, Westminster City and Camden councils, no doubt aided and abetted by Transport for London, are busy spending huge amounts of public money creating shared accessible road surfaces and parking bays paying lip service to some “political correctness” in apparent blissful ignorance of the fact that our historic streetscapes, with their raised granite-edged pavements, were intended to offer protection to pedestrians!
