Parents must teach children not to litter our streets
Thursday, 12th July 2018
• LITTERING streets is a problem, but reporting it to a PC or PCSO would not be practical as they may have more serious incidents to attend, (Why not adopt your street to help keep it clean, July 5).
In my opinion it is all down to parents’ discipline; my children, aged 22 and 20 now, never discard rubbish on the street as I told them not to do so when they were younger, always being a good example to them. If there was not a rubbish bin around they would take it home.
Some years ago I saw a mother snatch an empty crisp bag from her child’s hand and throw it in the middle of the road when they got off a bus, and thought it would not happen in my country, Japan, as we are known for picking up rubbish after matches at football stadiums.
Therefore, we need to start educating the next generation and hope the littering problem in this country will diminish in future. Not littering in the first place is definitely better than cleaning up afterwards.
