MY piece last week about the Queen’s cataract operation led to a statement being issued to the media from the Palace confirming that she had had it carried out recently at a private hospital.

I had written about the retirement of the Queen’s eye surgeon, Jonathan Jagger, from the Royal Free Hospital.

After my story went online on the CNJ website, it was picked up by TV news channels and national press which referred to the Queen’s “private” operation.

I have written about royalty over the years but never, until last week, has the Palace gone public on it!
