Oxford Street: I’ve discovered there’s no need to go
Friday, 6th August 2021
• I HAVE engaged in dialogue with Peter Harley on previous occasions when the pedestrianisation of Oxford Street has been discussed through the Extra.
Now we have another plan to do so and all the old issues come back into play.
I stated previously that I have multiple health issues. I cannot cycle, use the tube or walk long distances which makes me totally reliant on using buses. As the bus network service Oxford Street is reduced it has been increasingly difficult to go there at all.
No problem, as the only unique feature of Oxford Street is Selfridges which I rarely visited.
I have discovered there is no need to go to Oxford Street at all as there are good alternatives to the shops, offices etc which are considerably easier to access.
As a result, I have only seen Oxford Street occasionally in the last few years when I travel through it to Trafalgar Square, or Waterloo. I never need to stop there at all.
Not good news for the people who used to receive my custom but the inevitable consequence of the action being taken by Transport for London, the Mayor, etc, of which Peter Hartley seems in total support.
Laurence Eyton’s comments (We don’t want the traffic, July 30), about the displacement of traffic are totally valid and must be considered by TfL as part of the consultation process for any future changes.
By the way, Mr Eyton is quite right to ask where Peter Hartley lives. I also think we should be told.
