Our pavements need repairs

Deep clean - Westminster

Major roads benefitted from a deep clean

• I NOTE the letter from Cllr Paul Dimoldenberg about cleaning (Streets get a ‘deep clean’, September 2), but we also need the pavements kept in good repair.

A while ago you printed a letter from me. While out walking I tripped over with my “walker” and it hurt. I am an 80-year-old pensioner with health problems, but force myself to walk.

Since then I have watched other people with walkers and can see that they go very slowly, looking at the ground all the time.

Then there are people with pushchairs, children, and shopping trying – for want of a better word – to balance and look at, or check for, broken paving stones. It’s not easy!

Wheelchair users also have a hard time and problems with the pavements, and for blind people it is very hard indeed.

What must tourists think of London when our streets so badly need cleaning and repair?
