Our MPs should take back control and end this Brexidiocy
Thursday, 15th February 2018
• SIR Keir Starmer is wrong in supinely saying we must leave the EU because of the referendum result (We have to abide by Brexit referendum, warns Starmer, February 8).
While there was a narrow victory for Brexit in percentage terms among those who bothered to vote, when you factor in the millions who failed to do so, this “majority” becomes just 38 per cent, not nearly enough to justify our departure from one of the world’s largest trading blocs.
Turning our backs on our nearest and most loyal neighbours, friends, and business partners in the hope of making deals with the Chinese, Indians and Americans is sheer stupidity. Leaving will create problems in every single part of British life.
Starmer also knows why we had a referendum in the first place: because David Cameron was incapable of shutting up his nasty right-wingers, like Michael Gove, Boris Johnson and Jacob Rees-Mogg.
When you look at why people voted to leave the EU, you soon see it was almost nothing to do with our membership: it was immigration, immigration, immigration: a view fostered by our mainly right-wing press.
This was then bolstered by other lies about how much we pay the EU, utterly failing to understand how and why the EU came into existence and what is trying to do: build peace across Europe, with the richer countries helping the poorer ones to grow and develop.
Our elected MPs should take back control and stop the Brexidiocy.
