THEY’RE often overlooked in our hurrying and scurrying to get where we’re heading but, if you can pause for one moment, you’ll note that it’s still the case that London’s tube network boasts some of the most wonderful 20th- century architecture in the UK, if not the world.

Now artist Luis Gómez Feliu has travelled the network make sketches of what he calls London’s 82 most beautiful stations. And, of course, many lie within the Westminster boundaries.

The work was commissioned by personal finance website Pounds To Pocket and among those Luis has chosen are some of our most iconic: Baker Street, with its stunning light wells that bring natural light into the subterranean interiors; Great Portland Street, with its unique elliptical doughnut marooned on a traffic island; and Leicester Square, named after Robert Sidney, the 2nd Earl of Leicester. The station is now covered with neon signs and film stock images, reflecting its unique place in the British film industry.

Interesting facts about the stations accompany the project. For example, while Blackfriars might look striking with its glass and steel façade, it is also partly powered by the world’s biggest solar-panelled bridge, reaching across the Thames.
