• YOUR correspondent (Letters, March 30) asked “which ethnic group represents Ukraine”?

Someone on Twitter asked what is the clan tartan of Humza Yousaf, the new leader of the Scottish National Party.

These are 19th-century questions, the false answers to which led to the world wars of the 20th century.

To see the irrelevance of such questions, one might as well ask “which ethnic group represents Camden?”

In the 21st century nations are defined by residence not ethnicity.

And, to cut a long story short, the nation of Ukraine is now being defined further by the Russian attack on that country.
