However, as an event which has the admirable aim of bringing all the nations of the world together, it projects a pretty grim state of affairs.

First of all I understand some competitors have had to fund upwards of £50,000 just to get to the starting line.

Secondly, it’s almost exclusively the richest nations on the globe who always top the medal tables.

Sport for all? A level playing field? No chance!
