‘Noise is not only an issue in Soho but other parts of the city’

• THANK you for highlighting a key issue on your November 4 front page (Soho noise is now ‘out of control’).

Noise is not only an issue in Soho but other parts of the city, along Edgware Road and Maida Vale, and the Westway where a major source is the road traffic.

Many underestimate the nuisance caused by noise pollution for people’s health and sanity. For example, noise from planes was a far bigger issue around Heathrow expansion than air pollution and CO2 emissions.

In the hierarchy of environment concerns it always came top on the doorstep around Heathrow airport. So I am not surprised at all that it’s a major concern for residents of the City of Westminster as well.

I suspect you’ll have a lot of other residents from other parts of the Westminster at the public meeting about noise being called later on this month by the Soho Society.
