No to gun salutes

Thursday, 22nd April 2021

• I SHARE Nigel Armistead’s view of the gun salute in honour of the late Prince Philip, (Firing guns as a salute is wrong, April 15).

I think that firing 41 shots into the sky is a pretty poor way to honour the passing of the Queen’s consort, but my view as a commoner isn’t taken into consideration because tradition and class tends to take the place of logic and humility.

When my time comes, I’d rather the focus be put on Christ Jesus and why his sacrificial death is important to everyone regardless of class and royal cultural heritage.

Rather, that is, than relatives, friends, and guests saying how nice I was when I’m no longer alive and conscious to cringe and disagree.
