THERE was no end to the drama on Friday as scores of teams desperately hoping to get their hands on silverware gathered at Market Road for a big cup finals night in the Camden and Islington Youth Football League.

The nail-biting tension was gripping from the sound of the very first whistle as the Under-9s Alan Michael Browne Cup final between Sapo Verde and Primrose Hill went to penalties.

In the end Luke Gregory, Luke Williams and Ryan Mulvihill all scored as Sapo Verde won the shoot-out 3-2.
AC United Spartans Under-14s
Goalkeepers from both teams covered themselves in glory, with Sapo shot-stopper Alex Achermann-Stanfield earning the player-of-the-match award, just edging out his opposing number, Karl Bricks, who was equally outstanding between the sticks.

Two goals each from Oscar Daniel and Charlie Preus saw Camden Elite wrap up a league and cup double by beating European Football Academy 4-3 to win the Under-13s Henry Hicks Challenge Cup.
With new Islington mayor, Cllr Una O’Halloran, and deputy mayor, Cllr Dave Poyser, cheering on all the teams pitch-side, there was still plenty of time for star players to step out of the shadows and make themselves into heroes.

Striker Joe Day didn’t need a second invitation as he scored a hat-trick to lead AC United Spartans to glory in the Under-14s cup final.
Josh Scott-Collins also scored as United ran out 4-2 victors against CM Futsal.

In their last ever game in the league, the Under-16s teams from St John’s Wood and Fusion played out a thrilling finale as their cup contest ended 1-1.
Goalkeeper Jacob Black produced the goods, making some smart saves as St John’s Wood won 3-1 on penalties. Zak Gaunt, Patrick Mallucci and Dennis Shah all successfully converted their spot kicks.
Man-of-the-match Gaunt had earlier scored with a stunning free-kick while Ellis Cunningham was on target for Fusion.
