Lord Mayor

THE new Lord Mayor has been officially appointed at Westminster Abbey in a tradition dating back more than 90 years.

Cllr Karen Scarborough read from the New Testament book of Philippians, at the civic service along with council leader Paul Swaddle, who read from the Book of Deuteronomy.

The main sermon was delivered by the Reverend Helena Bickley-Percival, Minor Canon and Sacrist.

Mayor Scarborough said: “Having lived in Westminster most of my life, occasions like this remind me how proud I am to be serving our beloved city.”

She added: “While it may be one of my lesser-known responsibilities, it is a true privilege to hold the position of Deputy High Steward of Westminster.”
