AN application has been submitted for a massive redevelopment of the former home of Twentieth Century House.
Royal London Asset Management (RLAM) and architects Simten’s plans reveal an extensive revamp of 31-32 Soho Square that includes the demolition of 65-66 Frith Street, and the refurbishment of 22 Dean Street and 10 Chapone Place.
They say the plans have been carefully designed to respond sensitively to the surrounding area while delivering long-term economic, public and social benefits for Soho.
The Twentieth Century House, which comprises most of the site, facing Soho Square, was built in 1936 for Twentieth Century-Fox Film Company and served as its head office until they moved out in 2020. It’s been empty ever since.
The original façade will be retained in the office and workspace development.
There are 151 documents in the planning application, which include a new public walkway between Dean Street and Soho Square built into the designs.
No comments or objections had been received as the Extra went to print.
A spokesperson at Royal London Asset Management said: “This is an opportunity to bring an important Soho site back into active use in a way that reflects the area’s character and supports its long-term future.
“The proposals have been shaped through extensive engagement and provide flexible workspace, including affordable space, alongside new public realm that improves connections through the site.
“We would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to engage with the process and look forward to continuing to work with Westminster City Council and local stakeholders as the application is considered.”
