LITTERING fines are being almost doubled by Westminster Council.

Fines – for detritus from eating and drinking, gum and cigarettes – are rising from £80 to £150 next year – with an early pay rate of £95.

Public protection chief Councillor Ian Adams said: “The council uses its full powers to enforce against littering and with national changes to the law we had the opportunity to increase these deterrents. The council will be nearly doubling our littering fines as part of our drive to keep Westminster a clean and healthy place to live.”
