A CAT that spent two weeks cowering from thundering trains in a pitch black tube tunnel has “made a family complete” after a dramatic rescue.

Mr Jingles found himself lost on the Pimlico station tube tracks and scavenging for mice on the platforms when the line was closed.

Eventually it was tempted into a cage with smelly fish by the tube station’s manager who said he had been communicating with the cat using his own version of “meowing”.

It was put up for adoption as a rescue cat and is now living a happy life with new owner Charlotte Kemp and her family.

She said: “Our son, he is eight. Has always wanted a white cat. Because we lost our last cat there was a cat hole in our lives. He has made us complete again as a family.”

Tube drivers had said they thought they had seen the cat hiding and alone in the tunnel, 50 feet (just over 15 metres) underground.

Station manager David Nobbs took a flashlight and spotted the cat but it would not come to him at first.

He said: “He could have been hit by a train or electrocuted. Fortunately the gods were smiling.

“I’ve been working on the London Underground for 16 years and you get all walks of life coming through the station, but never before a cat on the loose.”

Mr Nobbs told BBC London: “I felt really happy we had caught the cat and stopped it from getting any dirtier. It started off as a white cat.”

It is not the capital’s first tube station cat rescue. In 2020, another white cat, Blitz, was rescued from Tufnell Park after an estimated 250 trains passed above the stricken feline on the northbound Northern line.

The line was shut down temporarily so he could be saved.

Mr Jingles, originally from Dubai, was taken on by Friends of Felines who found him a home.

Jenny Jones from cat charity said: “If only he could talk, he’s had so many adventures. I really think he’s used up most of his nine lives.”
