John Platts-Mills QC

• I READ with great interest John Gulliver’s article about Robert Latham and his connection with John Platts-Mills QC, (Looking back with Starmer man, Bob, March 12).

It brought back many memories. I grew up from the age of nine to 20 in St John’s Wood. We lived opposite the Platts-Mills family with whom I spent many very happy hours playing, usually in the street.

There were six boys with the most wonderful, beautiful, patient mother. Imagine the laundry without washing machines!

John was a very imposing, friendly character, and I am lucky to have such good memories of the whole family.
