• MAY I offer my thanks for reminding all of us what May Day is (Rising like lions after slumber, April 29).

Something this government, aided by most of the media and TV, have tried to make us forget is that it is in fact International Workers Day; not just another bank holiday.

Hopefully next year we will see the traditional May Day march back in strength, provided the government’s latest bill threatening peaceful protest is defeated.
