PLAYERS from Camden Town WFC rewarded a record-attendance crowd on Sunday with a resilient performance against Richmond & Kew in the Premier Division of the Greater London Women’s League.
The official figures marked 83 supporters at Wingate & Finchley FC’s Maurice Rebak Stadium in Summers Lane, but a quick look in the stands would suggest that count was probably a little shy of the actual number.
And those who took advantage of the free tickets saw the home side battle back not once, not twice, but three times in the first half as goals from Katie Shingler and Lily-Rose Dyer, and a McKenzie Webster penalty, earned Town a thrilling 3-3 draw.
“We could have come away with all three points, but unfortunately it just wasn’t meant to be on the day,” said Town manager Harry Sherman. “We now need to understand the reasons for the result being what it was.
“What’s more important for us is our performance, and our attitude towards the game. To come back from a goal down three times in one half shows the resilience within this team.
“We can be very proud of the football we played, and the class we showed to everyone who came and watched us. If we continue improving and progressing as we are, the results will come.”
