Public Domain is at the Vaudeville Theatre
PART of Nimax Theatres’ Rising Stars Festival, Public Domain is playing in the West End at the Vaudeville Theatre until May 30. It’s a dark, funny, verbatim musical about the internet: those who own it and those who live in it. Written and performed by Francesca Forristal and Jordan Paul Clarke, Public Domain follows two teenage influencers – Millie (Sporty Spice, health guru, buddha bowls – millennial) and Z (GCSEs existential dread, swag – Generation Z). • Beginning life as a live digital broadcast, Rambert’s Draw from Within was an instant hit. Now reworked for stage at Sadler’s Wells with a live audience, Wim Vandekeybus and Rambert have created an exhilarating reflection on a time when we’re desperate for old-fashioned physical interaction and find ourselves wondering which way is up. • The Theatre Royal Stratford East returns with The Sun, The Moon, and the Stars, a blistering play from Dipo Baruwa-Etti, which explores trauma, rage and the extent one young woman will go to in her quest for justice. Femi is visited by her brother’s ghost. He takes her into the past, revealing the final moments before his murder. With a lack of evidence and unreliable eyewitnesses, Femi is determined to set things right. Directed by Nadia Fall and starring Kibong Tanji. June 2-19. Visit: stratfordeast.com
• Stoke Newington’s Tower Theatre opens its doors with five performances: a collection of new pieces in which people of diverse ages open themselves up to memories and feelings in tender, funny and moving ways. • The Language of Kindness at Shoreditch Town Hall is a celebration of nurses and frontline healthcare workers which explores the realities, challenges, heartbreak and joy of working for the NHS and supporting families as they face their best and worst moments. Wayward Productions and co-creators Sasha Milavic Davies and James Yeatman have developed a poignant dance-theatre piece about the tactile work of nurses where the ensemble never touch. June 3-12.
