THE Royal Court Theatre’s Living Newspaper draws on the radical history of the Federal Theatre Project of the US that mobilised unemployed artists and theatre workers after the Great Depression. The Living Newspaper was a politically themed response to a time of civic and economic trauma and the commissioned plays dealt with issues of the day.
The Royal Court has created six editions of living newspapers for our times, led by writers, and working with freelance actors, designers, stage managers, technicians and choreographers. Each edition launches with a live streamed performance of The Front Page, and then is available to watch for two weeks.
Edition 6 is available from April 19 and writers include Pamela Carter, Hester Chillingworth, Tim Crouch, Molly Davies, Amy Bethan Evans, Robert Alan Evans, Rose Lewenstein, Simon Longman, Rory Mullarkey, Lettie Precious, Testament, Joe Ward Munrow, Kit Withington and Rachael Young.
Single Edition tickets start at £10 and will give online access to performances of new work ranging from 2-15 minutes in length. Visit: royalcourttheatre.com/living-newspaper/

A film version of Cruise, a play with live music written and performed by Jack Holden, is available online until April 25 ahead of the show reopening at the Duchess Theatre on May 18. Recreating 1980s Soho, this one-man show is a celebration of queer culture and a spoken word tribute to the veterans of the AIDs crisis. Cruise will feature an uplifting 80s electronic soundtrack with classic anthems as well as original new music performed live by The Little Unsaid’s John Elliott. Visit Stream.Theatre

The Almeida Theatre’s production of Hymn by Lolita Chakrabarti directed by Blanche McIntyre and starring Adrian Lester and Danny Sapani will be broadcast on Sky Arts at 9pm on April 18. Sky Arts is free for everyone to watch on Freeview Channel 11. Sky subscribers can also watch Hymn on-demand after the broadcast.

On April 18 at 7.30pm BBC Radio 3 is broadcasting Eugène Ionesco’s Killer starring Toby Jones, Christine Bottomley and Liz Carr and directed by Polly Thomas.
