• THE excellent letter from Andrew Dismore and Anne Clarke (Tories are waging war on Londoners, May 21) rightly says “it is high time more of the money London pays out comes back”.

Very true, and the only way this can be achieved is for London to have the same powers to tax and spend as Scotland.

London needs to be able to tax the financial overclass and global super-rich who put such a burden on our city and spend the revenue on our transport, hospitals, services and housing.

London needs its own government with the powers to protect us from the worst excesses of the government we didn’t elect. It’s time London Labour started campaigning to make this party policy.
