• ON or about May 20 in 2020, shortly after my birthday, I was sitting in Oakley Square park reading.

The place was empty but for an elderly couple walking their two dogs. Two policemen approached and bluntly ordered me to leave.

Confused, I asked why, “lockdown, mate” was the answer, and I was escorted out of the park between them, as if I had just been arrested.
