Let’s not forget Viscountess Rhondda

Margaret Mackworth Viscountess Rhondda
• YOUR February 8 gallery of distinguished suffragette portraits reminded me of incidents in my Rhondda childhood.
On more than one occasion I witnessed the jeer: “Who does she think she is, Lady Rhondda?” when someone did something vivacious, innovative or just appeared over the horizon looking smart.
I was never told anything about the cited Lady Rhondda (1883-1958) or why her name was being used as a weapon. In later years I discovered she was an active suffragette but, as a mere female with a hereditary title, unable to join the House of Lords.
I hope she gets remembered alongside more famous feminists. It would be posthumous justice.
