‘I have not had an opportunity to meet my GP despite repeated attempts’

• DOES anything work any more?

In four years of being registered at a practice in Camden, I have not had an opportunity to meet my GP despite repeated attempts. I’ve no idea who they even are.

This wouldn’t be extraordinary in today’s state of affairs had it not been for the fact that in that time I have been diagnosed and treated for a serious chronic illness.

For all the talk of money going into the National Health Service, what assurances are there that something as basic as communicating, when a patient can’t even get a look in on being able to reach a stage where they might be considered for an appointment, be rectified?

I don’t mind having to sit on a telephone holding queue for 50 minutes, providing I’m not told “computer says no” and will have to try another day.

The basics need to be rapidly rectified if the public are to have any faith in this government’s handling of the NHS.
