Leases on land would be better and help curb developer land-grabs

• THANKS for the March 1 Comment (Get rich quick – the real reason for this faster railway), revealing the Euston rebuild as a land-grab on the part of the developer… I’m sure you’ve noticed Landlease is primarily Chinese controlled?

As China is now cashing in on the investment it made in 2012 by laying claim to great tracts of Europe and Britain’s footprint, perhaps we can ameliorate the damage by insisting that they are only given the land on a lease contract?

This is a system that has worked well in the western wards of London, and in China itself, where – according to Forbes.com – residential land is parcelled out in 20- or 70-year leases.
