Labour’s tax freeze pledge not unusual

Labour has pledged to freeze council tax

• YOU were right in reporting that Westminster Labour would freeze council tax bills, but I am afraid wrong to suggest it’s unusual for us.

In fact our 2014 manifesto pledged to “Freeze the council tax by cutting council waste” and in 2018 we pledged to match council tax levels set by Conservatives currently running the council.

Indeed the only time Labour has proposed a different council tax rate was 2021 when we moved to freeze council tax, against Conservative demands to increase it.

Our Conservative opponents used to believe their own propaganda, but a current newsletter helpfully tells residents Labour has pledged to freeze council tax.

After Conservatives wasted £6million on the Marble Arch mound, spent £20million on Oxford Street consultants with nothing much to show for it, and didn’t ask big landowners to contribute to the £32million Strand-Aldwych scheme that benefits them, Westminster residents can be sure a Labour council will be sustainable, businesslike and efficient, and deliver value for money.
