• LABOUR has let down young people and universities on Brexit.

When Sir Keir Starmer visited UCL last week, students from across the university expected to hear the official opposition’s voice on Brexit. Instead, students heard a voice beholden to outdated and nationalistic interests.

He made it clear that he was unwilling to listen to the 75 per cent of young people in Britain who voted to maintain our membership with the EU, and who will be the among the most affected by the decision to leave in the harshest possible way for years to come.

In so doing he has left the livelihoods of thousands who live, work, and study at UCL, as well as across London, in the lurch. Every student and academic in our university depends on the people, funding, and ideas our relationship with Europe provides, and Starmer has recklessly put that in jeopardy.

The time for meaningless platitudes and policy wanting in substance has long passed. So that we can decide for ourselves how we work with the EU in the future, we call upon other young people and those in the universities sector to vote for the Lib Dems in May.
