Jupp Dernbach’s fountains at Centre Point
• I WAS very pleased and touched to read the letter by architect James Dunnett in your newspaper regarding Jupp Dernbach’s fountains at Centre Point, (On serious architecture! November 24).
As Jupp’s daughter, I am naturally very happy to hear praise for his work, which was prodigious. He was an excellent craftsman as well as a good painter and sculptor, so I was lucky to grow up surrounded by his work.
He also worked with the two great ceramicists, Lucie Rie and Hans Coper, so a high standard was the norm in our household.
I now realise that it was a privileged childhood which I completely took for granted. I hope the fountains will continue to give pleasure for many years to come.
I was also lucky to be married to Richard Burton, part of the trio of architects, Ahrends Burton and Koralek, who designed and built many excellent buildings. I think that they made an excellent contribution to the architectural world.
