JUST Stop Oil campaigners made themselves heard by bashing pots and pans near to the “home” of Rishi Sunak on Wednesday night.
Eighteen people from the environmental group sat in a cobbled street in Kensington at around 8.10pm with placards saying “arrest the real criminals”.
There were speeches and a performance of a song called We Tried by Just Stop Oil supporter and musician Louise Harris – one of the activists who scaled the M25 gantry last year. At 10pm they were all arrested.
Pia Bastide, 29, a community worker, said: “The Met police should be targeting the real criminals, like Rishi Sunak and all the oil barons striking slimy deals at COP28.”
The group has been marching every day from Trafalgar Square at 12pm, to bring an end to new oil and gas.
There have been 659 arrests of Just Stop Oil supporters since October 30.
A mass march is planned for Saturday, starting outside New Scotland Yard – the headquarters of police who say they are under intolerable pressure.
The JSO campaign is backed by TV favourite Chris Packham.
He said: “Alarm bells are ringing! Good! The world’s leaders are sleep-walking to oblivion, it’s time they woke up to their responsibilities and found the sense and courage to actually lead us towards environmental stability and recovery.”
