Jorginho backs ‘special’ Arsenal
Midfield ace set to face his former club

JORGINHO believes that Arsenal’s ambitious young squad will become something “special” – providing, of course, the players don’t let their “egos take over”.
The former Chelsea man will be hoping to play a part against his old club on Saturday evening when the Gunners return to Premier League action at Stamford Bridge.
Having moved across the capital in January, the midfielder says he’s loving what he’s seen so far in north London. And he’s adamant that the feel-good factor surrounding the Emirates will get “way bigger” if “the team always comes first”.
“I think we are very, very close as a team,” Jorginho told Arsenal’s official club website.
“I can feel it is a special group because it’s a humble group of boys that all have their minds open to learn, to listen, to improve and to give opinions, too.
“So as long as we don’t put our individual ego in front of the team, this group can be special. I see it can be that way, and I hope the egos never take over. I hope the team always comes first, because then the enjoyment is way bigger than just being an individual.”
Meanwhile, Gunners goalie David Raya is hoping the travelling Arsenal support will once again stand up and be counted at Stamford Bridge. Raya cut a jittery figure before the international break but still managed to help Mikel Arteta’s side earn a 1-0 victory over title rivals Manchester City. Incredibly it was the first time that Arsenal have kept a clean sheet at home in the league since May.
Raya praised the atmosphere at the Emirates, crediting the fans with helping the team find that “extra gear”.
“It’s incredible, it’s amazing, it’s one of the best stadiums in the world in my opinion, and having the fans behind us is incredible,” said the shot-stopper. “Home and away, we always need them, and they give us the extra edge, the extra energy, the extra gear that we need sometimes. The fans are top, it’s incredible to play for this football club.”
Against City the nervousness in the crowd could be heard and felt as Raya continued to try and play out from the back.
But there seems little doubt Arteta is going to stick with his first-choice keeper after he jumped to Raya’s defence. “It’s my fault, all my fault,” insisted Arteta. “They can pull me up on it because I asked him to do that.
“I think he was excellent, the way he dominated his box, the way he came out for crosses and set-pieces, and the height that he played at. He’s got big ones, because the crowd go like this with the players. I’ve seen it, the players start to kick balls everywhere and I said to him, ‘You don’t do that, make sure you don’t do it’, and he didn’t do it. At the end, he got rewarded.”
