Jeremy Corbyn’s intransigence is a strength
Friday, 10th August 2018
• JEREMY Corbyn has made it clear that (a) he doesn’t dish up like-with-like when faced with personal insults and (b) his leadership of the Labour Party is based on the democratic decisions of the party in line with its constitution and not on any cult of leadership.
So faced with the right accusing him of being anti-Semitic, the left telling him to stand up to the right, the media stoking up the situation with their usual criticism that he is weak and indecisive, and various party big names warning that the party is likely to go into oblivion, he abides by the decision of the party’s national executive to reopen the consultation on the working definition of anti-Semitism issued by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance and the proposed amendments to one of its points.
Just as we saw during the unceasing attacks on him in the two leadership elections and the general election, his strength is that he stands firm on “a different kind of politics”, patiently observing the democratic procedures and refusing to be dragged into a subjective row, especially on such an important issue. I for one admire his intransigence and am proud to be in the party under his leadership.
