Jeremy Corbyn is an anti-racist and has nothing to apologise for

Friday, 10th August 2018

• I SHARE Ruth Steigman’s anger at the onslaught against Jeremy Corbyn, (Corbyn’s opponents could be boosting anti-Semitism, August 3).

Like her, as a Jew, I know about anti-Semitism and have no difficulty in recognising it: I have never experienced it in the Labour Party in 35 years’ membership.

It is not anti-Semitic to  be critical and, in my case, appalled by the Israeli government’s actions and recent legislation against Palestinian rights.

It is to be humane and caring about the human rights of a nation, as we are in so many other instances of repression.

What is lacking, deliberately in the case of most of the media, is recognition of the fact that the attacks on Corbyn only occur when Labour take a lead in the polls.

Recently, it has been to cover up the latest Israeli government legislation against Palestinians, the Nation State Law, which declares that “…only Jews  have a right of self-determination”. More or less declaring the non-existence of Palestinians.

It is shameful a man of Corbyn’s anti-racist (I make no distinction between racism and anti-Semitism) background has had to defend himself against these charges. He’s nothing to apologise for.
