Jeremy Corbyn

Jeremy Corbyn

• WE, individual members of Camden Palestine Solidarity Campaign, greatly welcome the letter from Jewish members of the Holborn & St Pancras Labour Party dissociating themselves from accusations of anti-Semitism against Jeremy Corbyn, (Letters, April 12).

It raises the question as to what is the source of these allegations. We know from everything that has happened over the last two to three years, ever since Jeremy Corbyn was elected leader of the Labour Party, that Zionists, in tacit or explicit alliance with the Labour right and the Tories, have launched a smear campaign using allegations of anti-Semitism as the main weapon aimed at delegitimising and destabilising his leadership.

The reason for this seems clear: he is a lifelong supporter of the struggle for Palestinian rights. This is, therefore, also an attack on the Palestine solidarity movement.

It is no accident that the current Israeli ambassador, Mark Regev, is a professional propagandist and was appointed shortly after Jeremy Corbyn was elected precisely, it seems, in order to undermine his leadership.

The Chakrabarti report, published two years ago, concluded that “the Labour Party is not overrun by anti-Semitism, Islamophobia or other forms of racism.”

The fact that Shami Chakrabarti was commissioned to investigate anti-Semitism in the Labour Party testifies to Jeremy Corbyn’s profound commitment to eradicating whatever pockets of racism persist.

The fact that the new general secretary is committed to implementing its recommendations is good news for all minorities, anti-racists and campaigners for Palestinian rights.
