I’ve witnessed a pedestrian hit a person but fail to stop
Friday, 16th February 2018
• IN response to Abul Kalam (Regulate cyclists, February 9), many pedestrians seem not to respect other road users.
I have noticed some of them do not stop at a red man and do not attempt to cross at the zebra crossings available, even when they are with children.
At night it is difficult to see some of the pedestrians who walk without lights or any visible clothing to identify them. I have witnessed a pedestrian hit a person but fail to stop; there was no way to identify them, with no number plate.
Pavements have been provided but, I note, not all the pedestrians use them. Near where I live, from about 4pm to 6.30pm, it is so congested that it is very difficult for the emergency services to operate… and so it goes on.
I would hope that people – cyclists, drivers and pedestrians – might have the common sense to respect each other and abide by existing rules.
With that in mind I hope that the council, Sadiq Khan and Transport for London focus their energy on improving infrastructure and air quality, not wasting their time on more regulation.
