It’s time to get tough on Thames Water

Friday, 1st March 2024

• CITY councillor Paul Dimoldenberg is right in his February 23 letter to berate Thames Water, a monopoly provider of all our water, for roadworks in Westminster.

Since 2010 Thames Water have been sanctioned 98 times, £175million fined nationally by the regulator Ofwat.

So it’s time Westminster City Council sanctioned them more heavily for roadworks which are a nuisance to all, pedestrians, car drivers and cyclists.

All this while they have the nerve now to lobby for higher bills, dividends and payouts and lower fines at parliament.

I trust the council will make strong representation for at least the fines for delayed roadworks to be increased substantially as they are the biggest contributor to road closures among service utility companies in central London.
