It’s time for proper electoral reform

How to vote!
• ROBERT Ilson (Runoff voting, June 20) suggests adopting the French system of runoff voting.
Isn’t the system he describes simply “the alternative vote” system which the coalition government held a referendum on in 2011, and two-thirds of the public rejected? Of course, Camden was one of just six (out of 32) London boroughs to vote in favour.
If the recent opinion polls are correct, there may be many seats where MPs are elected on considerably less than 50 per cent of the vote. Surely it is time for proper electoral reform?
