Parakeets

‘Parakeets are incredibly destructive’

• AS I walked in St Andrew’s Gardens, Bloomsbury, this morning, the beautiful blossom on trees that were in full bloom only a week ago have now been decimated by the parakeets. They eat the green shoots on the trees and are incredibly destructive.

There are too many of them now and it’s time for Camden and other boroughs to discuss a cross-London cull as they are upsetting the finely balanced eco-system.

They have carried out a cull of female deer in Scotland recently as numbers were out of control, with no natural predators, and it was grossly affecting reforestation programmes, with saplings being eaten that were planted in climate-change initiatives.
