Sir Keir Starmer
• I’M old enough to remember Sir Keir Starmer being elected as MP for Holborn and St Pancras.
A stellar rise since 2015 to become leader of the opposition. He has proved he is indeed a great leader in opposition – against his own party.
He has supported Boris Johnson and his shambolic government relentlessly but has betrayed socialists, internationalists and unionists by whipping his MPs to abstain on both the overseas operations bill and the spycops bill, both which threaten human rights.
From a human rights lawyer this is perhaps surprising but Sir Keir is nothing if not consistent, sacking ministers who defied the whip and voted with their conscience.
In Sir Keir’s latest move, suspending Jeremy Corbyn for telling the truth, he has shown he wants to rid the party of its remaining socialists, (Shock suspension of long-serving MP Corbyn sparks Labour rebellion, October 30).
It’s time for a new socialist party. Who would have thought the Labour Party would be born and die under two men, both named Keir?
