IT was “job done” for players from Camden Town WFC on Sunday after they overcame tough opposition and blustery conditions to book their place in the quarter-finals of the John Greenacre Memorial Trophy.

Despite not being at their best in their fourth round fixture away to Enfield Town Development, Harry Sherman’s side still managed to eke out a crucial 2-0 victory as they continue their search for silverware this season.

It took Town almost an hour to break the deadlock, the all-important opening goal coming after Alex Nord demonstrated her individual quality by beating her marker before unleashing a low drive into the back of the net.

Enfield Town tried to claw their way back into the match, but Camden’s defence, marshalled expertly by Sophie Hoyle, stood firm.

Hoyle’s organisation at the back proved pivotal in Camden keeping a clean sheet, as their defensive unit worked tirelessly to neutralise any threats despite the challenging conditions.

The result was put beyond any doubt in the closing minutes of the match when the aptly-named Victory Edema pounced from close range after substitute Anna Kimberley’s initial shot was parried by the keeper.

“That was a big win for us today, and while we didn’t play our best football, we showed great resilience to get the result we needed,” said Town chairman Richard Mahoney after the game.

“The windy conditions certainly didn’t help our usual passing game, but we dug deep and got the job done.”

With an equally-important home game against Comets in the Premier Division of the Greater London Women’s League up next this Sunday at the Maurice Rebak Stadium in North Finchley, Mahoney added: “Now we move on to the league, and it’s important that we carry that same determination into our next match against Comets.

“The focus is on building consistency and continuing to push forward. It’s all about taking things one game at a time.”

Kick-off on Sunday is at 2pm – free tickets can be secured by going to the club’s website: www.camdentownwfc.com
