It’s best to laugh about it…

• OVER the past two-and-a-half years, yearning to find a lighter side to Brexit’s cuckoo’s nest, I’ve rediscovered Ken Kesey’s One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest. He wrote “you have to laugh at the things that hurt you just to keep yourself in balance, just to keep the world from running you plumb crazy”.
On the famous fishing trip outside the hospital, Randle McMurphy pulls the patients out of the fog of anxiety and paranoia by helping them to laugh again, with all that means in terms of psychological health and life affirmation. Laughter can help us negotiate the next three tense months.
