Artist Michele Lamy in Selfridges’ new boxing gym

SELFRIDGES’ artist in residence Michele Lamy has opened a new boxing gym on the lower ground floor of the famous store.

Using boxing as a metaphor for “exploring wider cultural, spiritual and social questions”, Ms Lamy has already given the store’s “Corner Shop” a radical makeover.

It is part of the famous shop’s “Radical Luxury” campaign, looking at “what luxury means today and – and what it might mean tomorrow”.

A new boxing gym, a venture by heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, opened yesterday (Thursday) with 20 punch bags and a gym available for workout sessions. Boxers can punch away to a mixture of rap and hip-hop music.
