Is it time for speed humps in Regent’s Park?
Thursday, 16th May 2024
• I AM filled with frustration and concern after learning about the tragic incident in Regent’s Park where a cyclist fatally struck a woman.
As a resident living nearby who frequents the park almost daily, it deeply troubles me that the safety of pedestrians has been compromised.
The park has become perilous for those on foot, as many cyclists treat it like a racing track, disregarding the presence of pedestrians.
It’s appalling to witness the audacity of individuals attempting to cross the road while cyclists, akin to a lycra-clad mob, are relentlessly pursuing their “personal best” times.
As someone with mobility issues, I require additional time to navigate crossings, yet the verbal abuse hurled at me by speeding cyclists is not only disheartening but also unacceptable. The sense of entitlement displayed by these cyclists is outrageous.
The police claim that speed limits only apply to cars, which is utterly perplexing and unjust. If authorities are unwilling to hold speeding cyclists accountable, perhaps it is time to install speed deterrents such as speed humps throughout Regent’s Park to ensure the safety of the public. RIP.
